From the Desk of Fr. Dan

Well, the time has come for me to move on and I must confess, I would have loved to stay here until my retirement, but that was not going to be the case. As I have reflected on my move, I have felt very blessed to have been at Holy Spirit Parish at Geist. When I arrived here just over six years ago, I had just finished my 19thyear as Pastor of St. Lawrence in Lafayette. I had also, from 1982 to 1990, served eight years at St. Mary Cathedral and Lafayette Central Catholic. I was sure I would never feel so much at home as I did in Lafayette.

How quickly you made me feel at home at Holy Spirit.Of course, Fr. Phil helped to roll out the red carpet, making sure there were bottles of wine and a beautiful place to call home. Then, there were the deer. They ate everything I planted and, finally, I discovered a listing of deer resistant plants and my appreciation for them grew. I have never seen a rectory property with deer, raccoons, skunks, chipmunks, snakes, fox, bunnies and birds of every kind. The rectory has served as a place of retreat for priests from all over the diocese, truly a place of blessing.

And then, of course, there are the people of Holy Spirit, some of the most welcoming I have ever had the honor to serve. It is no wonder that so many people call Holy Spirit Home. I once heard a wise priest say, “difficult people are equally dotted around the world”, but I have not found that so at Holy Spirit where I was treated with kindness and open hearts.

I want to thank everyone who has been so good to me while I was here. From vibrant liturgies, to great adult formation programs. From CYO sports, to Youth Ministry, and joyful kids worshiping the God who created us. From Parish Picnics, to St. Patrick’s dinners, to Oktoberfests, to CRHP Retreats –Faith and Fellowship have blended together to be a wonderful expression of the Body of Christ. Thank you for all you do for the Church, I have loved every day and person, and appreciate everything you have done for me. May God continue to bless everyone and please lift me in your prayers and I promise to do the same for you.

Love and prayers,

Fr. Dan
