Baptism Preparation

The Sacrament of Baptism is the first sacrament of Initiation into the faith community and family of God.  Your desire to have your child baptized is a public expression of your gratitude to God, a promise to actively share your faith with them through your own word and example and a pledge from the entire faith community to assist you and your child in living out the baptismal promises you have made.

 PARISH REGISTRATION

Parents who wish to baptize their child must be registered in the parish.

 CELEBRATION OF BAPTISM

Baptisms are usually held after the 11:00 a.m. Lord’s Day Masses on the first, second and third Sundays of the month. There are no Baptisms on the 4th or 5th Sunday of the month.

 GODPARENTS

“Godparents” are practicing Catholics (16 or older) who have received the Sacrament of confirmation and are prepared, by their teaching and example, to assist the parents in their lifelong duty of handing on the Faith.

 SCHEDULING A DATE FOR BAPTISM

Parents who wish to have their children baptized at Holy Spirit should contact the secretary in the Parish Life Center 8 weeks prior to the date they would like to baptize their child: 585-1257.

 PREPARATION FOR BAPTISM

If this is your first child or you have not had a preparation class for the sacrament, you will be contacted to arrange an appointment in your home after the Baptism has been scheduled. This session, with both parents of the child, is an opportunity to review your understanding of sacraments and preview the Ritual of Baptism.
